Drew Henson Pass-by-Pass Analysis

I watched the film of Henson's game Saturday. Here is my detailed analysis of his performance. I hope you enjoy this. I will try to do this for every game Henson has this year in NFL Europe.

Overview: His throws looked good coming out of his hand. His release point has good and he had great zip and a tight spiral on all his passes. He seemed out of sync for most of the game, but got into a grove towards the end of the game. He has a pretty quick release. He rolled out four times and looked fairly comfortable in that capacity. He doesn't seem to have great pocket awareness, but I will need to see more of him to be sure. He finished the game 5/11 for 58 yards. His QB rating was a lowly 61.9.

The Rhein Fire ran the ball very effectively so they really didn't open the offense up. They did a little when Timmy Chang came in during the 2nd quarter. He provided a spark, but still didn't really look any better than Henson.1. 2 & 10. Pass was tipped by a LB dropping into a zone across the middle. Was almost picked about 25 yards down the field.2. 3 & 10. Rolls out to his right, nobody open, so he runs it out of bounds for no gain. Smart decision not to force a throw.3. 2 & 7. Dropped back, hammered as he threw. Still delivered on target to TE about 10 yards out in the right flat. Called back for holding.4. 3 & 17. Throws a bomb a couple of yards out of bounds. Receiver was well covered. Believe it was called back due to penalty.5. 1 & 5. Hit TE on crossing route over the middle. Not a difficult pass, but showed arm strength. Hit him right in the chest. Did a nice job of getting rid of the ball fast with no hesitation.6. 3 & 3. Threw into double coverage at the goal-line. It was knocked down. Showed great arm strength.

Wasn't a good decision, but Zuriel Smith made it worse by stopping on his post route so he wouldn't get nailed by the safety. A throw most QBs in the NFL will try. Most good receivers could have caught that ball.7. 1 & 10. Rolls out right, sacked before he had a chance to do anything. Nothing he could have done, the RB completely missed his block.8. 3 & 9 Went through his reads, dumped off to RB for 19 yard gain.9. 2 & 6 Short pass to TE, on target for 4 yards.10. 4 & inches. Play action pass. Lead TE a little to much on a 15 yard corner route. Ball was just out of his reach. Not an easy throw because there was a tight window to fit the ball in. Showed coach's confidence in Henson's ability with the way they ran the ball all day.11. 1 & 10. Quick pass out to fullback in flats. Threw at his shoe tops. Incomplete.12. 3 & 15. Rolls out to right, steps into throw.

Overthrows guy coming horizontally towards him abut 40 yards down the field. Called back. 12 men on field.13. 3 & 10. Hits WR across middle 20 yards away. Bulleted it right into the receivers chest. Best throw of the game for any QBs. A lot of starting QBs in the NFL couldn't make that throw. Gained 21 yards.14. 2 & 6. Nice completion to TE for 8 yards. Threw accurate off his back foot. I would have liked to have seen him step into the throw and get hammered as he made the throw, because that would show me how tough he is.15. 3 & 11. Plenty of time. The corner is running the crossing route better than the WR. CB drops INT.
